Driving restrictions by license plate
Pico y placa is Medellín's daily driving restriction. On weekdays, cars with certain license-plate endings can't be on the road during peak hours, typically 5am to 8pm, Monday through Friday. Two plate digits are banned per day on a rotating schedule.
It applies to private cars, motorcycles, and taxis (with their own schedule). Tourists in rental cars and Uber passengers are not exempt, if you rent, double-check the plate before driving.
The schedule changes every few months. The Secretaría de Movilidad (part of the Alcaldía de Medellín) publishes the current calendar; the easiest way to stay current is the Pico y Placa Medellín app or a quick Google search before you drive.
