Money & payments

Currency is the Colombian peso (COP). Current rate: 3,500 COP = 1 USD (updated weekly). Bills come in 2k, 5k, 10k, 20k, 50k, 100k.

Cards work in most restaurants, supermarkets, and malls. Smaller shops, tiendas, taxis, and street vendors are cash only. Always carry some small bills.

Nequi and Daviplata are the local mobile-payment apps, you'll see QR codes everywhere. You need a Colombian phone number and ID to open one, but it's the easiest way to pay locals back, split bills, and tip.

Best ATMs for foreigners: Bancolombia, Davivienda, and Colpatria/Scotiabank. Withdrawal fees are ~$20,000 COP. Avoid Servibanca, higher fees.
