Eternal spring, with a wet side

Weather & seasons

Medellín is called the "city of eternal spring" for a reason: temperatures stay between roughly 17°C and 27°C (63-80°F) all year. No heater, no AC needed, apartments almost never have either.

There are no seasons, only two rainy periods: roughly April-May and September-November. "Rainy" usually means an intense afternoon downpour for an hour, then clear again. Mornings are reliably sunny.

The valley sits at 1,500m. Mild altitude, most people don't feel it, but you may get winded the first few days or sleep a bit differently. Hydrate. IDEAM is Colombia's national weather service for live forecasts.

Pack layers: a t-shirt for midday, a light jacket for night, and waterproof shoes for the rainy months. Umbrellas are sold on every corner the second it starts to drizzle.
